Social Life

The week is over and I have the numbers from my time tracker. It’s probably got a margin of error of about 5-10% but it gives me the overall picture of how I’m spending my time. Here are the numbers:

  • Sleeping: 27% (47h26′)
  • Working: 19% (33h11′)
  • Coding: 11.5% (19h43′)

After this I have two huge time leaks.

  • Social: 10.7% (18h)
  • Commute: 8% (13h30′)

I don’t mind having a sharp social life, but coding for 20h and socialising for 18h means I’m not making the necessary sacrifices to do the things that I have to do. Just to be clear, socialising usually means having coffee or dinner with a single person. I’m rarely involved in any gathering. And that also includes the time I spend on the phone with my family back in Brazil.

My conclusion is that there’s room to increase coding in at least 50%. If I cut my social life in half and stop going to the gym in the mornings, that means I’ll have about 12-14 hours to relocate. Realistically, I won’t be using all of them, but I could definitely get to 30hs of coding.

Well, going to the gym late has pros and cons and one of the cons is that I’m up at 12:37am so I’ll stop here, with stopwatches restarted for Week 30 of 2020. 🙂
